NOVEMBER 30, 2011 is a HOLIDAY

Bonifacio Day this year marks the 148th birth anniversary of Andres Bonifacio, the supreme leader of the Katipunan movement that sought Philippine independence from Spanish colonial rule.

But there would be no long weekend for this coming week to mark Bonifacio Day, according to MalacaƱang.

Deputy presidential spokesperson Abigail Valte stressed this in response to several inquiries on whether the observance of Bonifacio Day on Nov. 30 will be moved to the nearest Monday.

According to Proclamation 84, series of 2010, Bonifacio Day will be marked on November 30, on a Wednesday, as the date falls. There will be no moving it to Monday.

Meanwhile, Valte said the Palace may soon issue a proclamation specifying the dates of holidays for 2012. “We will issue the proclamation as soon as it is signed by the president," she said.
