CALAUAN LAGUNA: Acienda Del Cielo

📸 Cha Sy

I was greeted by the rustling leaves and swaying trees as I stepped inside Acienda Del Cielo in Calauan, Laguna. Thank you to all the angels I met along the way. Most notable is Calauan angel who I met inside the jeepney from Calamba to San Pablo via Calauan hi-way in my first ever commute since 2020 from Manila. You see, finding a spot like this along the highway isn’t easy especially at nighttime if you're like me who've never been to Calauan Laguna before.

The angel in the jeepney asked me to alight with her in front of the Rural Bank of Calauan where her husband fetched her. She then persuaded her husband to bring me to the gate of Acienda Del Cielo using their trike to ensure my safety because the jeepney driver said he doesn't know "Acienda del Cielo" nor its former name "Samland" located at 48J7+G6F, San Pablo Highway, Balayhangin, Calauan, Laguna. Again, thank you my 😇 angel 🙏 Because of you my FAITH IN HUMANITY WAS RESTORED.

Another encounter with angels on earth.

The good hearted guard told me to just wait for Ms. Inah of the design team and accounting to finish dressing up and put her make up on for the event that night, so I can come with her at the pavillion in their service e-trike so I would no longer walk in the narrow road alone.

📷 Leomy
First Impression

I thought the place is small because of the small gate and narrow road leading inside the property.

📷 Wazzup

Boy, was I surprised when we reached the pavillion and saw the spacious garden inside. Acienda del Cielo may look small from the outside but it is really huge inside.

📷 Wazzup

When we got to the pavilion, suddenly the terrain changes. It becomes hilly and the roads inside are wider than that at the entrance. And lo and behold, this is the highest point of this side directly facing Mt. Kalisungan. No wonder the place is called Acienda del Cielo, which literally means "Sky Estate".

📸 Cha Sy

Fresh air is what welcomed us, as Ms. Inah and I walked towards the pavillion, but what drew my attention was the large swimming pool, a few meters from the pavillion's side entrance. As you all know, a resort wouldn’t be complete without a pool, and the water was definitely enticing. If it weren’t for the cool weather when I visited, I would definitely have jumped at the chance to take a quick swim. Ha ha ha!

📸 Aileen De Leon

They have a huge Figure 8 Pool– good for both adults and kids, how I wish they have a jacuzzi too on the side. I think a poolside bar is also ideal where you can grab a mocktail while in the water just like in Manila Hotel ♥

📷 Cha Sy

Just a few hours away from Metro Manila.

Just like other people, my family and I usually take a respite from our busy schedules by having staycations in different hotels in the Metro, anywhere with good air conditioning and soundproofing to block out the rest of the city. But as time passes by, these offerings are not enough. Breathing positive ions is what you would wish for. Something you’d normally find from places that are a few hours away from the Metro like Tagaytay, Baguio, Batangas and Laguna.

Acienda del Cielo may be located in a remote and not a posh location but when you see their bridal house, their pavillion and twin house log cabin you can't help but say to yourself, “Today is going to be great”

WHAT IS IN THE NAME?

Acienda del Cielo was known among locals as "Samland Resorts". It was built in the ‘90s. About June last year, its previous owners sold the property and the new owner recently decided to renovate and rejuvenate the property. They decided to make it more aesthetically pleasing by painting their log cabins white. They finally reopened their doors to guests just over a few months ago.
📸 Fb of Acienda Del Cielo

Sitting at the highest peak of Calauan Laguna, it gives guests uninterrupted views of Mt. Kalisungan mountain range. The property’s layout and log cabin-inspired architecture also help create an intimate experience despite the largeness of the space.
The views and fresh air are just part of the experience. I can't help myself but touch the grass. Nature is really beautiful. Very refreshing to the soul.

The property is expansive enough to house several facilities without it feeling crowded, and there’s a court for some of the most popular sports in the Philippines. There’s a tennis/badminton court that can also be turned into a basketball court.

📸 Cha Sy

The property is very promising. I would l suggest for them to develope it into a team building facility complete with biking and running trail, camping, and, yes, wall climbing facility, maybe even a mini-golf academy as well with a certified instructor to boot to help guests practice their swings. They could also provide badminton and tennis rackets and a game table for table tennis.

They could also hold shooting range activities for gun or airsoft enthusiasts if there is no scheduled event. I remember in Singapore, my doctor friend relaxes by spending time playing airsoft after work every night.

And considering how exclusive and private the property feels, and how you’re not running into crowds of people, it definitely feels like it’s worth the commute.

Destination events are on the rise, but you don’t need to ship your whole conference over to Baguio or Boracay to feel the inspiration of being in a new place: there are hundreds of amazing and stimulating venues in Southern Luzon that will breath new life into your upcoming meeting or conference like Acienda del Cielo.

Celebrate your life's precious moments at Acienda del Cielo. Their air-conditioned pavillion are capable of holding up to 250 guests. They have both indoor (pavillion) and outdoor venues (Garden) that are perfect for that special event ranging from large scale corporate meetings, conferences and classes, trade shows, product launches, fundraisers, auctions, screenings and performances, to weddings, intimate receptions and private parties, yes, be it a debut, kiddie birthday party, engagement, wedding, baptism, graduation, team-building, talks, pop-up bazaar as well as other private events, and pre-nuptials photo and video shoots.

Book your dream intimate weddings and other events now through their websites and FB account.

DISCLAIMER: Not a sponsored paid blog but was invited to a Thanksgiving event inside the Acienda.

Milkin Corporation 30 Years and Beyond

Milkin Corporation 30 Years and Beyond

The 30th year of a company’s existence is traditionally called the pearl anniversary. It represents honesty, wisdom and purity.  Even more, it shows how something amazing can come out of a humble beginning. Like a grain of sand.  When you apply layers and layers of coating over time, after sometime you will have a luminous gem. I personally like pearls because they’re the only gem formed and found within a living creature.

What better time to celebrate his company's 30th anniversary than on the occasion of his birthday in the company of family, friends, employees and  industry partners. President and CEO Mr. Richie Cuna celebrated his birthday and his company's pearl anniversary at the Maynila Ballroom of Manila Hotel last September 14, 2022.

Kudos to Milkin Corporation's CEO Richie Cuna for taking the time to pause and recognise the contribution of his incredible team and franchisee from all over the country in making Milkin
Corporation such a great company.

The company started way back in 1989 under a Filipino-Italian business venture. The company started as a Designer's Ice Cream Manufacturing Co.,

Fast forward to 30 years and they now have franchisees across the country with Japan and LA franchisee opening real soon.

Milkin Corporation also carry other brands such as Fior Café, Fiorgellato, DM Express and its newest baby, Kurimi Milk Tea Bar. "KURIMI" is a slang term for "CREAMY" by the Japanese because they don't have an equivalent word for it in Japan.  Milkin's 2D milk tea restaurant concept has 60 franchise locations nationwide now and is going international with Japan and LA opening Kurimi Stores soon!

Having branches around the globe says a lot about their brand. What has remained consistent is the go beyond DNA of their amazing people going way beyond above and beyond.

MEETING THE HIGHEST STANDARDS

The company's focus on customer satisfaction means they don’t rest until they’ve done their job right. Even when no one is looking. That’s how Milkin Corporation's various brands such as Fiorgelato,  Fior Café,  DM Express & Kurimi earn the trust of those they serve. And it’s how they’ve built those iridescent layers year after year. It’s like the old proverb. Pearls don’t lie on the seashore. You must dive for them.

Just as troops can’t fly if aircraft don’t, they dive in and do what’s needed to be done. Deploying rapidly. Getting into challenging environments, even when travel is restricted during the lockdowns because of covid-19 pandemic.
Korean inspired 2D theme Kurimi Outlet

On their milestone anniversary, they have never been more mission driven or dedicated to making a difference. While they have 30 years behind them, they keep on looking ahead and feel full of possibility. The industry needs what they have to offer. Watch for some amazing plans and expansion that they will be sharing with us Filipinos over the coming years. You might say, Milkin Corporation are fully coming out of their shell.

Milkin Corporation's excel
culture drives their actions. The officers and staff of the company works from-the-heart some of them are employed since the creation of the company. They're all very dedicated. A real difference-making team.

To cap the celebration, all of the pioneers of Milkin Corporation that served the organization since its founding in 1989 plus all the officers and staff were honored. Likewise, the company recognized the support of outstanding partners and linkages in delivering aesthetic restos and delicious food and drinks closer to our fellow Filipinos nationwide.

HAPINOY CELEBRATES 15 YEARS OF SOCIAL ENTREPRENEURSHIP

In celebration of its 15th year as a social enterprise, Hapinoy treated select sari-sari store owners from all over the archipelago plus its industry partners to a sumptuous lunch last September 14 at Enderun Atrium in Taguig City.

Sari-sari store owners from all over the Philippines who attended either the physical or online digital training in the past finally meet one another in person.

Founded in 2007 by then (Former) Senator Bam Aquino and Mark Ruiz. Hapinoy is a pioneering social enterprise based in the Philippines which aims to be a constant partner of women microentrepreneurs who own micro-retail shops called sari-sari stores.

These “Titas and "Titos" as how the men and women of Hapinoy fondly call one another - are organized into on-ground and online communities and are provided access to learning, financing, technologies, and new business opportunities.

Since its inception in 2007 it has now impacted close to 100,000 sari-sari storeowners all around the Philippines.

I also met these two foreigners who are connected with Qualcomm. Through their modern technology, Hapinoy was able to bridge the gap and transcends from physical trainings to online FB live seminars reaching more sari-sari store owners nationwide, especially  during the onset of the pandemic when everyone was lockdown in their respectives homes.

Hoping for more years of Hapinoy so that sari-sari store owners all over the country would be presented with more opportunities and skills to take their business to new heights.

Teacher Bullying Students

Students and pupils are now back in a face to face setting at their respective schools nationwide here in the Philippines.

With Vice President Sara Zimmerman Duterte-Carpio at the helm of DepEd, I hope this valid issue of teachers bullying students would be addressed accordingly. DepEd should be loud and clear about its stand of zero tolerance for any act of child abuse, psychological violence, discrimination,  bullying committed by teachers.

Madam VP, I hope you'll act on this matter with the broken window theory in mind. Nag uumpisa pa lang ay kalusin na. Ika nga ayusin na po kaagad bago lumala. Maraming Salamat po 🙏.  Broken window theory is the concept that each problem that goes unattended in a given environment affects people's attitude toward that environment and leads to more problems.

Only on her second week of being back in school, my 13-year old niece was so stressed out and traumatized, nangangalumata na parang panda and has a fever this morning. She did not say anything wrong about school. But upon closer prodding of my eldest brother just this morning, it turned out that she's "pinag-iinitan" at school by her teacher for no reason at all.  Yes, we do not know the reason or reasons of her teacher. One possibility is because she was absent for two days last week because her dad has a health scare. Imagine how my niece is trying to cope with the possible loss of her dad, and the huge responsibility on her shoulder being the eldest and now her teacher is bullying her for no apparent reason. Imagine making her take a make-up quiz with about 50 questions within 5 minutes while constantly nagging her of the time left all throughout that 5 minute-ordeal. Talaga lang po teacher? Ikaw kaya bigyan ko ng exam 1 to 100 sa loob ng 1 minute kasi malaki ka na at definitely triple ang edad kaysa sa mga tinuturuan mo na students. Under time pressure ikamo, so ayan para maramdaman mo paano sumagot under extreme time pressure coupled with unrelenting nagging about the remaining time.

I wonder why some teachers tends to bully their students or pupils for no apparent reasons. Some students or pupils classify teacher bullying as only  "PINAG -IINITAN". That's bull! You call an ace an ace! That is definitely an act of terrorizing students.

Some students are stressed, and even traumatized by subtle bullying done by fault-finding teachers.

Growing up, I was never bullied at school. I got lucky that my teachers are the best of the best in the field of education. My classmates are also cool😎.  So, I cannot relate to the victims of bullying before. But when I was bullied by some peers when I was still new in the event scene I can say that I now uniquely feel those poor bullied students and pupils.  Bullying is still prevalent not only in school but also in other fields of work not only in the Philippines but worldwide.

Reminder to all teachers, child abuse is a criminal offense punishable by Imprisonment of six (6) months and one (1) day to six (6) years or a fine of not less than Fifty Thousand Pesos (P50,000.00) but not more than Three Hundred Thousand Pesos (P300,000.00) or both at the discretion of the court.

2022 na po, teacher. Tigilan na po ninyo yan fault-finding ninyo sa mga kawawang mag-aaral. Be kind, empathize with your students and please be compassionate.  After all, you're receiving a high salary to mold and help your students be a successful individual and good citizen of this country, not a mentally challenged,  insecure, and traumatized individual.

I guess a lot of people has realized by now that mental health is important, be it at school, workplace or at home. Please protect your students. Don't add up to the stress that they're going through at home.

Always be kind to your students. You never know what they're going through. 🙏 Rotten tomatoes at DepEd should be removed.

Kindness, empathy and compassion should be practiced by those in the teaching profession because those elements will help your students to become successful in life.🙏 Teach your students to be happy. Don't instill fear in them.

According to a Harvard University research, they were able to gather evidence that prolonged and/or excessive exposure to fear and states of anxiety can cause levels of stress that can impair learning and adversely affect later performance in school, the workplace, and the community.

The students may feel sick and will start to think about all the things that could go wrong. As a result, the performer will not attack the vault as effectively as they could and the performance will not achieve as high a mark.

So to all the teachers who love to torture their students please stop the unnecessary "power trip".  Some teachers uses their "authority and moral ascendancy over their student by threatening to fail them, that's why some students cowardly suffer in silence fearing that his or her teacher would make good her or his threat. Other teachers connive and tolerate the act of their fellow teachers because they sympathize with their colleague.

The talent of the students in public schools could be at par with the privileged, and sometimes, even better. What and how the teacher teach can be reflected in the way the students think and act. Teachers are there to improve students morally and mold them to be the best.

To all pupils, students suffering from mental anguish, emotional damage from their bully teachers please feel free to email DepEd action@deped.gov.ph

You can also fill up the form at their official website just click this link and it will open to the complaint and feedback form of DepEd https://www.deped.gov.ph/feedback/

Teaching is a noble profession. Salute to the men and women in the teaching profession who never stops loving and caring for their students. Mabuhay po kayo 🎉 May your tribe increase 🙏

Bikers retrace the road to freedom for National Heroes Day

Bikers from Bataan, Pampanga, Tarlac and nearby provinces pedaled along the route traversed by the country’s heroes in a fun ride for a cause dubbed, “Ride for Valor.”

The “Ride for Valor” a non-competitive 160 kilometers long bike ride raised funds to save our heroes’ historical markers so that we may remember their sacrifice. The funds will be turned over to the Filipino-American Memorial Endowment (FAME) a non-government organization that maintains the kilometer markers of the Bataan Death March from Mariveles, Bataan to Capas, Tarlac.

In the past, Bataan Death March markers had been destroyed, uprooted, and neglected due to drainage and other road projects. Ten (10) Death March historical markers in Mariveles, and four (4) in Limay, Bataan have to be relocated soon due to road widening and other repairs.

The Death March markers serve as a reminder of the route taken by Filipino soldiers who defended the country against Japanese forces during World War II some 80 years ago. About 10,000 brave soldiers died along the route; many of the bodies were never identified or recovered.

The ride is part of the 30th anniversary of the Philippine Veterans Bank (PVB). PVB is a commercial bank owned by World War II veterans and their families. As part of its charter, PVB allocates 20% of its annual net income for the benefit of its shareholders.

Around 80,000 Filipino and American soldiers and prisoners of war were forced by the Japanese military to march 69 miles from Bataan to Tarlac during World War II. Only some 54,000 persons reached the camp, and around 20,000 died due to starvation, dehydration, diseases, and the brutality of Japanese captors.

Puerto Princesa: Paradise Regained

Puerto Princesa is known for its royal treatment of its guests. With safety protocols firmly enforced, guests are assured of their safety.

Good news to all those bitten by the travel bug, Puerto Princesa is poised to again welcome tourists with open arms. In recent years, the highly urbanized city and tourist haven has been paralyzed by the Covid-19 pandemic, then pummeled by Typhoon Odette. But it is now on the road to recovery---as spectacularly as its scenic, romantic and gastronomic attractions.

“The tourism industry is the lifeblood of Puerto Princesa, along with agriculture. Almost 15,000 people directly or indirectly benefit from tourism. In varying degrees, most of the recent construction and development projects are related to tourism: hotel-building, parks, cruise-ship ports, street lights, roads and many more. Unfortunately, some of these have been on hold since the onset of the pandemic,” discloses Demetrio “Toto” Alvior Jr., the city tourism officer.

The Royal Connection

Puerto Princesa, the capital of postcard-perfect Palawan, sprawls across 253,982 hectares of captivating coastlines stretched over 106 kilometers. Due to its strategic geographical location, it has sufficient depth to allow ships of all sizes to anchor, earning a reputation as a “Princess of Ports,” or in Spanish, “Puerto Princesa.”

There’s no contention that Puerto Princesa is one of the country’s greatest pleasures. A holiday destination universally beloved by travelers, beach-combers and trekkers; a bustling business center with a rural allure; a provincial vibe with modern amenities; and a clean and green city recognized for its lush forests, fresh air and frontier character.

Rising Above Covid-19

The city of Puerto Princesa has been struggling to get to its feet since the outbreak of Covid-19 in early 2020. The lack of tourists, which is the main industry, has forced hundreds of tourism-related businesses to close, leaving thousands of tourism workers unemployed.

“The public-health crisis forced them to find alternative sources of income, which was made more difficult because of the restrictions of movement due to several lockdowns,” Mr. Alvior reveals. “One factor of low tourist arrivals is the fluctuating number of Covid cases, which in turn affects the determination of quarantine requirements and national government intervention policies.”

Today, Puerto Princesa is experiencing record lows in terms of economic losses, losing around P5 billion a year for the past two years from potential tourist receipts.

“The City Tourism Department has been strengthening its social media campaigns to encourage local tourists to visit local attractions, in a bid to boost much-needed revenues to the ailing tourism sector,” a cautiously optimistic Mr. Alvior says. “We have one important wish in the City Tourism Department, and that is to prioritize the aids for the Typhoon Odette-affected tourism industry here.”

The goal is to regain the city’s glory as an eco-tourism capital. “Our 2022 goals are full restoration of all the tourist attractions affected by Typhoon Odette such as the completion of the construction of the cruise-ship port and other man-made tourist attractions. There will be wide, extensive and aggressive promotions of Puerto Princesa to the local and international market.”

The Last Frontier

Puerto Princesa has a plethora of tourist spots. But many tourists who visit the city put the Puerto Princesa Subterranean River National Park, one of the New7Wonders of Nature, on top of their list. As the jump-off point for exploring the world-famous Tubbataha Reef, the city also hosts a fair share of adventurers.

“Since the Covid-19 outbreak, we have never ceased to hope that the future will be better. This year 2022 is no different. And while what we want is a full recovery, we cannot afford to be careless when taking big steps. As we begin to truly understand the gravity of the situation, we also come to realize that our moves must be consistent with the bigger picture such as the national situation,” Mr. Alvior says.

Since February 10, the city has been happily welcoming more visitors once again, hoping that the arrival numbers will soon be back to pre-pandemic levels. In this initiative, the tourism department shares the privilege on with the private sector.

“While the government is the administrator of the State, the private sector is the bloodline. The government and the private sector are two inseparable factors for Puerto Princesa to prosper, and more importantly, to recover,” Mr. Alvior says. “The key to recovery is to enable and support the private sector to keep or resume their business operations. When it comes to the city’s biggest partners, apart from government agencies, it is the collective impact of small-business operations.”

Puerto Princesa may be “The Last Frontier,” but the City Tourism Department is confident that it will always be the first choice of every traveler.

COMELEC: Precinct Finder Is Now Online

Good news, dear readers! You can now check the status of your voter's registration starting today, Friday, April 22, 2022.

The Commission on Elections (Comelec) precinct finder is now online.

Comelec’s precinct finder can be accessed through:

 https://voterverifier.comelec.gov.ph/voter_precinct

A duly registered voter can now finally search where they can vote and know their assigned polling center or precinct for the upcoming elections on May 9, 2022. All you have to do is to encode the following:

  • your full name
  • region and city or municipality where you registered as a voter.

Last April 1, the Comelec partnered with the Department of Information and Communications Technology (DICT) in preparation for the upcoming polls. The DICT said it will provide cloud hosting to Comelec’s online services such as Precinct Finder, among others.

According to Comelec Commissioner George Erwin Garcia, the DICT had a small technical problem that caused the delay in the activation of Comelec’s Precinct Finder, adding that the DICT and Comelec have ensured that hackers will not be able to access the Precinct Finder.

Not techie? No load? No access online? Don't you worry because soon those who have no internet access can approach personnel from local Cosmelec offices nationwide. That's right, off the grid voters will soon be provided with their voters information sheet, containing the details of where they will cast their vote.

Filipino Bloggers Network holds 10th Annual Thanksgiving Party

It was a decade ago when the Filipino Bloggers Network (FBN), one of the most active Philippine-Based community of bloggers and influencers in the country, held its first-ever Thanksgiving Party in a hotel in Quezon City.

This coming December 12, FBN will hold its 10th Annual Thanksgiving Party virtually to reacquaint with fellow members around the country and reminisce 120 months of challenges and cheers; 3,650 days of networking; countless stories and priceless memories.

Although the gathering will still be online just like last year, FBN members anticipate the annual get-together as an opportunity to make new friends and catch up with old pals they have not seen for a while, not to mention the chance of winning some exciting prizes from the games and raffle draws. Representatives of different PR groups and brands will also grace the event to personally thank members of the online community who have supported them in the past years.

FBN currently has around 2,000 members across the country and abroad and continues to expand as it provides a venue for Filipino bloggers to interact with other members, even those based overseas. Moderating the discussions and posting opportunities from several brands are co-admins Divine Reyes and Richard Mamuyac and Lariza Garcia.
