MIRRIAM DEFENSOR SANTIAGO NOW A JUDGE IN INTERNATIONAL COURT

Senator Miriam Defensor-Santiago just won the election to become judge of the International Criminal Court.
 
Santiago said she could only leave her seat in the Senate once she would be called by the ICC to report to her new work.
 
The senator will be one of the six judges, who will assume office in March 2012. But Santiago said it might take a year before she assumes the post.

Santiago said on radio that she would be the first Filipino to sit there.

Her staff member, Tom Tolibas, said the senator got 79 votes in the first round of the ICC election, which automatically got her elected to the ICC.

Aside from Santiago, the committee on international criminal court posted on Twitter that Anthony Carmona of Trinidad and Tobago was elected to the ICC. In the radio interview, Santiago joked that she probably won a seat in the ICC because her enemies campaigned for her so that they could get rid of her.

Santiago topped the first round of the elections with more than two-thirds majority (79 votes), which was enough for her to win. Santiago will be the first Filipino to sit as judge of the 16-man Int'l Criminal Court based in The Hague, The Netherlands.

Prior from Senator Miriam Defensor-Santiago winning the seat, DFA Secretary Albert del Rosario welcomed Santiago’s nomination for the prestigious international post as he stressed that the finding of the Independent Panel “validates the confidence the Philippine government has placed in the excellent qualifications and outstanding character of our candidate, Professor Dr. Miriam Defensor Santiago.”

The Panel was established by the Coalition for the International Criminal Court (CICC) in December, 2010, to encourage States Parties to nominate the most qualified candidates to be judges of the ICC. The CICC includes 2,500 civil society organizations in 150 different countries working in partnership to strengthen international cooperation with the ICC.

The Independent Panel consists of experts in international law, international criminal law and procedure, humanitarian law and human rights law. They include the chair Justice Richard Goldstone, former Chief Prosecutor of the UN International Criminal Tribunals for Rwanda and the former Yugoslavia, where he sat as chair; and Patricia Wald, former Chief Judge of the US Court of Appeals for the District of Columbia and former judge of the UN International Criminal Tribunal for the former Yugoslavia, among others.

“It assessed each candidate according to the “list” to which he or she was nominated, either ‘List A’ consisting of candidates with expertise and substantial experience in criminal law, or ‘List B’ consisting of candidates with expertise and experience in international law relevant to the ICC.”

Santiago, a former trial court judge and expert in international law, is one of 19 candidates that was eyed for six vacant seats on the ICC. She is included in List B. Based on geographic representation, one of the six is reserved for Asia. One other country from Asia, Cyprus, is competing for that seat.

However, that country’s candidate, George A. Serghides, was not among those that the Independent Panel found as “Qualified” because he lacks the necessary relevant experience, whether as judge, prosecutor, advocate or in other similar capacity, in criminal proceedings, according to the Panel.

“We see the ICC as playing a significant role in ending impunity, preventing crimes against humanity and in strengthening international peace and security,” said Secretary Del Rosario. “The Philippines wishes to contribute to the work of the ICC and has launched the candidature of Dr. Santiago with this topmost in our minds.”

SENATOR PING LACSON'S SON IS RHIAN RAMOS NEW BOYFRIEND

Senator Panfilo Lacson confirmed on Tuesday that his son, Jeric, is the new boyfriend of controversial young actress Rhian Ramos.

When asked about his son’s rumored relationship with Ramos. Sen. Lacson said yes and that he don't meddle with his son's lovelife.

Showbiz talkshow host Cristy Fermin wrote in her December 11 column that Jeric supposedly called Gumatay to stop bugging Ramos. Rhian Ramos’ ex-boyfriend, Mohan Gumatay known as “DJ Mo,” supposedly made a remark against Jeric.

Gumatay, allegedly told the young Lacson,

“You are not the senator. You’re just his son. if you want to kill me, come here. Alone without bodyguards,” the column reads.
 

Asked for comment, Lacson said, “It’s ill-advised of Mr. Gumatay to even mention me directly and indirectly for the reason I already mentioned.”

Dear Fashion Pulis,

I saw your post regarding Rhian Ramos' interview on 24 Oras. I was hoping I can write this to you in order to give my side regarding your online entry. I'm trying to put this past me and maybe this letter can help in doing that.

I’m hoping this is the last time I have to speak of this issue. After Rhian’s statement on 24 Oras, I would like to clear a few things with all of you. Everything I will say here is fact, easily proven. First, I did not harass Rhian. Our relationship ended in October when I broke up with her while we were riding in my van the day after my birthday. Since then, we have had several arguments regarding issues of infidelity during our relationship but I have not harassed her. Since our breakup, she has willingly come to my house on 2 occasions, met with my family and spent the night at the hospital with me at St. Luke’s a few weeks ago—all can be confirmed. The last time I saw her was the night in the hospital and since then I have not returned any of your calls or text messages, also easily proven by cell phone records and texts log. So please, I’d appreciate it if she would refrain from implying that I have been harassing her or, somewhat narcissistically, thinking I cannot go on without her. We, under their orders, have lied to the public about our relationship for so long but the several people who have knowledge of it can attest that we both do not harass each other. I am happily dating someone new, as Rhian is, and I have not reached out to contact her in any way since our breakup in October.

I DID NOT upload the video that spoke of what we went through. I am also appalled that she denied any knowledge of the existence of the video when she knows that I physically gave her a copy in front of your mother and lawyers in May and even before that, we watched it together. I have been trying my best to find out exactly how the video was uploaded and I appeal to the individual in possession of my personal files to not upload any further videos that we have made.

Regarding the “threat” to take away everything she loves away from her. A variety of undesirable remarks were thrown during our heated arguments, including references to my sick daughter and to her career. I despised how easily a decision to stop something for a career can be made and she specifically told me, “what I’ve worked for in the past 5 years is the MOST important thing in my life.” I then rebutted with, “it should not be the most important thing in your life, because it is just a job. As easily as a baby can be sacrificed, which was so important to me, a persons job can also be easily taken away even though it’s the most important thing in someone’s life.” That was the conversation. If I were so threatening in the past and so abusive, then there should have not been any reason that after our brief break-up in April, that we would have sustained a relationship until October.

Yes, I met her at 16, as colleagues in this industry. It does not imply that we had a romantic relationship. Prior to me, after 16, she had 2 “official” relationships with other actors in her network. I was not even close enough to her to be invited to her debut at 18, and we only became very close after her relationship prior to me.

Again, I’m sorry about the video. I am continuing to follow up on how it happened. But at the same time, I cannot and will not deny the facts in the video. I also will not insult the memory of our child by denying its existence. I tried making a stand for it then and I will make a stand for its memory now. In our time I have known of two of these instances and something has to be done to stop it. Her family is fully aware of this and I hope that one day, their drive for money and fame will take a backseat to what is most important (as Rhian says), which is family. The one you have now and the ones you were supposed to have. Rhian will always have a special place in my heart. As ugly as this ended, I will always love her and treasure every second we spent together because it was very real for me. I will regret some of the things we have done, some of thing we have said, but I will not regret the time we put in for each other. I appreciated all the nice things she has done for me and I have forgiven the times when it got out of hand. I cannot forgive her family’s stance on some of the issues we encountered. I did not appreciate the violent tweets from Rhian's father but I’m glad she told him to stop it. Her new boyfriend has done the same and I too am glad he has erased some of them. I have successfully not contacted Rhian for the past few months and our relationship is something I’ve moved on from. I admit I struggle, as she was always aware, with the loss of our child. I expect that to last for a very long time.

I hope the best for Rhian’s career. I’m glad she has a supportive network to back her and the executives there have always been favorable to her so I assume she will get over this. To be honest, the only time I have been insulted throughout this recent ordeal was when I believe Atty. Gozon said in an interview that I am out to ruin Rhian’s career. And that this is all “ungentlemanly.” As a parent, if that happens to him (knock on wood), I assume he wont take it lightly and that career should not be the focus of any his statements—as ungentlemanly as that may sound. I’m sorry to the people we have let down. I have been seeking therapy for the past year to help get over the loss and be a better person. My decision to leave temporarily was decided long ago. I have lost myself in the wilderness of this industry, maybe in taking a break, I can find myself once more.

Again, this is the last time I'd like to share about this. For those who are sick of it, I understand. I am too. But when lie after denial after hypocrisy gets to pile up, frustration and the need to set it straight feels in order. I don't have a manager or network machinery to concoct statements for me. So I hope this is the last of it. Thank you for reading my letter.

SUPREME COURT CHIEF JUSTICE RENATO CORONA IMPEACHED

Today, Monday, December 12, 2011 members of the majority coalition at the House of Representatives formally impeached Chief Justice Renato Corona.

Iloilo Rep. Niel Tupas Jr., chairperson of the House justice panel which prepared the case, said a total of 188 members of the majority signed the complaint during a caucus earlier this afternoon. 

The figure is more than the required number for the case to be transmitted directly to the Senate.

Under House rules, an impeachment complaint has to be approved by one-third of all House members in this case, 95 lawmakers for it to be able to be transmitted straight to the Senate for trial. 

In a matter of hours, 188 of 284 congressmen signed the verified complaint against Corona, which allows it to be transmitted directly to the Senate without undergoing House committee deliberations.

The ruling party’s move came a few hours after Corona, at a flag ceremony at the Supreme Court, bared an alleged plan to oust him from office by any means fair or foul.  SC Chief Justice Renato Corona however, said he will not leave his post. 

The grounds of the impeachment case versus Corona are:

1.) Betrayal of public trust due to subservience to Pampanga Representative Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo during her presidency, from the time of his appointment as Supreme Court justice to his midnight appointment as Chief Justice.  Examples are his partiality in the Megapacific contract decision, Fernando Poe Jr. case, the Lambino versus Comelec case (people’s initiative), David vs. Arroyo and Neri vs. Senate (executive privilege.)

2.) Culpable violation of the Constitution for non-disclosure of the statement of assets, liabilities and net worth.

3.) Alleged graft and corruption. Refusal to account for judicial development funds, special allowances and other court collections.

Sinubukan kong hiwain ito sa pamamagitan ng tinidor, pero ang kunat nito. hanggang sa itinihaya ko ito. At sa pagtihaya ng nilalang, tumambad sa akin ang kanyang mga paa at pati ang mukha nito na parang nagsasabing " Alam mo this time pwede kang magreklamo, tutal nasipsip mo na buong pagka bulate ko, at isa pa obvious naman na ang laki ko".

Alam mo Chickboy hindi naman ako mahirap ka relasyon, sa totoo lang hindi ko alam kung malas lang ako sa mga ganitong bagay, kasi dati sa ibang kainan, may ipis na maliit na kasama sa pagkain ko, langaw, uod na maliit.. Pero ito naman, sobra naman sa laki na imposibleng hindi mo makita! "Mam, paltan nalang ho namin yung kangkong" what??? Sa tingin mo ba kakain pa ko ng mga pagkain niyo pagkatapos ng lahat? na nasipsip ko na ang buong pagkabulate ng nilalang sa kangkong ko?. Kumalma naman ako, pero yun pa rin ang sinabi ko. sabi niya "Ma'm ano ho bang gusto niyo?".

siyempre sinagot ko "Ang gusto kong malaman kung bakit may malaking bulate sa kangkong ko at hindi niyo nakita!". Lalong namutla yung Glaiza at sabi "Mam babayaran nalang po namin lahat ng kinain niyo". Mainit pa ang ulo ko, pero tumango nalang ako. Pero binawi ko rin ito after awhile, mga limang minuto, kasi gusto ko nalang i take out ang kangkong na may bulate. Ah ganon, hindi ako tanga, at alam ko kung ano ang gusto mong sabihin pwes inunahan ko na. sabi ko "Mabuti pa i review niyo ng malaman niyo kung sino naglagay ng malaking bulate sa kangkong ko! at makita niyo rin kung gaano ako sumuka pagkakain ko ng kangkong niyo!, akin na, akin na ang tinake out kong kangkong na may bulate!" aba strike 4 humirit pa ang waiter na ito at sinabing "Naku, mam pag ho binayaran na kayo hindi niyo na ho makukuha yung kangkong."

May meeting ako nung hapon ding iyo at kailangan ko ng umalis. Sabi ko" Excuse me, may meeting pa ako babalik ako mamayang gabi, at mamayang gabi ibigay niyo na sa akin ang kangkong na may bulate at ipakausap niyo nalang sa akin may ari nito para hindi na kayo ma mroblema" . Sa totoo lang naawa pa ko, dahil mga tauhan lang sila at hindi nila alam kung anong gagawin sa mga ganitong sitwasyon.

So bumalik nga ko kinagabihan.. Pinaharap niyo sa akin yung isa niyo pang supervisor o pang gabi, sabi niya tinapon na raw yung kangkong na may bulate, pero tinawag ko yung Glaiza. Sabi niya "Ay mam hindi pa ho namin tinatapon", ano ba yan sobrang halatang nagsisinungaling kayong dalawa.. So si supervisor or manager na pang gabi, inexplain sa akin kung ano ang proseso niyo ng pagluluto ng kangkong. Sabi ko, nasa proseso ba ng pagluluto ang paghuhugas ng gulay?. You're not getting my point. Since wala kayong maisagot, nilagay niyo ko sa isang tabi tapos bumalik kayo kasa ang isang food checker at dalawang pulis.

Akala ko yung pulis, yung kami ang nagpadala, since na reklamo na namin sa kamias station na wala rin naman palang nagawa. Ngayon, ang akala ng mga pulis na ito masisindak niyo ko, well well well nagkamali ka..dahil sa pagkakataong ito ako ang tama at ako ang complainant! at sasabihin pa sa akin ng mga pulis na ito na, ang mali ng isa ay hindi mali ng lahat…ang point dito may sinabi ba akong ganun? ang point dito bakit may bulate sa kangkong ko! tapos hihiritan pa ako, na may food checker kayo, na one year na kayong operational. Tinanong ko siya kung siya ang manager, hindi ko na hinintay kung tumango man siya o hindi. sabi ko

" Pwes ang pangit ng management niyo! Alam niyo, kung kayo takang taka kung bakit may bulate sa kangkong ko, mas lalo na ako!Dahil NASIPSIP KO LANG NAMAN ANG BUONG PAGKABULATE NIYA. Ngayon, kung iniisip niyo na ako ang naglagay ng nilalang diyan, sana man lang hindi ko ginisa sa kakainin kong kangkong at lasap na lasap ko ang laman ng bulateng yan! ngayon, kung ayaw ibigay sa akin ang kangkong kong may bulate, kumuha kayo ng limang bulate at sipsipin niyo sa harap ko ok na ko! hindi niyo na kailangang kainin yung balat tutal yung laman lang naman nakain ko!" Nilaksan ko ang boses ko na pang main theater ng ccp..sabi ko," Ako pa ngayon ang may kasalanan!ako na nga nakakain ng bulateng pagkalakilaki! at isa pa, una sa lahat, bakit niyo kasi ako nilagay sa gitna ng mga customers niyo? at isa pa, bakit ikaw ang kausap ko? part owner ka ba ng chickboy?"ayun natahimik ang pulis patola.. sabi ng kasama ko. "bakit ba kampi kayo sa kanila eh kami ang complainant! at isa pa kaya gusto namin kunin yung kangkong na may bulate kasi gusto namin kayo ireklamo sa BFAD. bigyan lang ng leksiyon."

Sabi ko."alam niyo, kung kayo nag SORRY nalang hindi na siguro nangyari yung ganito!" papano, ang yayabang pa, napaka defensive kagad. hindi aminin ang mali! sabi ng pulis.."mam, di pa ho ba sila nagsorry?" sabi ko "hinde!!!inexplain niyo lang naman sa akin ang tungkol sa pagnenegosyo, kung papano dinedeliver ang mga gulay niyo at kung papano niyo pinapatakbo ang chickboy!!!"….

Anyway, bago pa makagawa ako ng gulo, pinakalma na ko ng kasama ko at aalis nalang kami…gusto ko lang sabihin sa'yo CHICKBOY na wag niyo kong lekturan sa pagnenegosyo mag seminar muna kayo ng TUNGKOL SA SANITATION, HOW TO DEAL WITH CUSTOMERS, AND HOW TO BE HUMBLE! At sa tingin ko dapat rin kayo manood ng mga bagong episodes sa KNOWLEDGE CHANNEL UPANG MALAMAN NIYO KUNG PAPANO ANG TAMANG PAGNENEGOSYO AT MALAMAN ANG "BATUKTALI" sa pagnenegosyo! 10 episodes yun. At ngayong pasko lalo na't maraming pamilya ang mag bonding sa labas at definitely kakain, sana Maging maiingat kayo sa mg pagkaing sineserve niyo. At kung mangyari muli yun, isipin niyo ang kung kayo ang nasa posisyon ng customer. Minsan naiisip ko, nung sa karinderya ako kumakain, wala pa akong na experience na ganito. Kung kelan sa mga mas mahal at mas established pa na restaurant, dun pa pumapalya!

There are rumors going around Facebook that a caterpillar (or "bulate" as they call it) was found in our Ginisang Kangkong sa Bawang. If you are familiar with Chic-Boys ginisang kangkong sa bawang, our kangkong is cut into bits. HOW COME IN THE PHOTO THEY POSTED, THE CATERPILLAR IS WHOLE?

We are not surprised with this demolition job. We have only been in the market for a year and a half and we have grown to 64 opened stores and 48 under construction. Do you think the competition will just take us sitting down?

Pepsi HIV Hoax Goes Viral, Pepsi Denies Rumors

Pepsi HIV hoax are currently circulating through SMS, email and social networking sites like Facebook and Twitter.

The hoax message warns people from drinking Pepsi Cola and other Pepsi products as it could be contaminated with HIV (Human immunodeficiency virus).

One text message, which believed to have originated from India, is a very obvious hoax. It says:
 
Important message….for d next few days, do not drink any product from pepsi company like pepsi, tropicana juice, slice, 7up , coca cola, etc,,as a worker from the company has added his blood contaminated with HIV. watch NDtv …please 4ward this 2 every 1 u care about…..please spread!

What gave it away was that Coca-Cola is not a product of Pepsi but a rival brand.

Another hoax message from Facebook warns people not to drink Pepsi products as an HIV positive “factory worker” was said to put his blood in some of the bottles.

PepsiCo’s marketing vice-president Hemalatha Ragavan said the Pepsi HIV rumor is not true. She urged people not to believe such claims because Pepsi products were produced according to the “strictest safety standards.”

“This SMS started circulating in India in July and even there, no one believed it,” she said on Friday.

“It is scientifically proven that HIV cannot be transmitted via food or drinks anyway,” she added.

PepsiCo also announced on its website that there’s no truth to the story that Pepsi bottles and Tropicana packs were contaminated with HIV infected blood. They consider the viral message “an attempt to malign the company’s reputation.”

Vic Sotto's safe answers to Rumored Relationship with Pauleen Luna

Vic Sotto delivered “safe answers” when the entertainment press asked him questions about his rumored relationship with Eat Bulaga‘s youngest female co-host, Pauleen Luna.

The rumor about Vic Sotto and Pauleen Luna being an item has erupted via the column of entertainment writer Ricky Lo last Wednesday.

Lo said in his column that a “reliable source” has witnessed a “very subtle sweetness” between the veteran host/comedian and his Eat Bulaga! co-host.

During the press conference for the Metro Manila Film Festival entry “Enteng ng Ina Mo” by MZet, Octoarts, APT Entertainment and Star Cinema last December 8 at the Dolphy Theater, Vic Sotto, 57, was asked the inevitable question about his rumored relationship with Pauleen Luna, 23. 

Here’s a transcript of the interview by the entertainment press to Vic Sotto:

Q: Ano ang plano mo ngayong pasko?

Vic: “Ganoon pa rin. Kung ano ang plano ko last year, hindi naman nagbabago yun, e.”

Q: May nagpapainit ba ng Pasko mo ngayon?

Vic: “Palaging mainit din ang Pasko ko. Tuwing Pasko, natatanong din ako niyan!”

Q: Mas masaya ba ang Pasko mo ngayon?

Vic: “Palaging masaya ang Pasko.”

Q: May inspirasyon ka ba ngayon?

Vic: “Palagi akong may inspirasyon. Marami akong inspirasyon.”

Q: May lovelife ka ba ngayon?

Vic: “Palagi akong may lovelife.”

Q: Totoo bang nag-de-date raw kayo ng co-host mo sa Eat Bulaga! na si Pauleen Luna?

Vic: “Si Pauleen Luna has a very important cameo role in this movie-Enteng Ng Ina Mo. That’s it. That’s all there is to it. In other words, sa Tagalog, hanggang doon na lang ang masasabi ko dahil mas marami kayong nasasabi kesa sa akin.”
