JOLLIBEE HAPPY PLUS CARD

JOLLIBEE HAPPY PLUS CARD and I.

Two Filipino brands partner to bring the country's first cashless payment card with rewards. Jollibee and BPI had a ceremonial tap of Happy Plus Card at Jollibee Mind Museum at 32nd street, Bonifacio Global City yes simply called the Fort last July 9, 2012.

BPI is providing the payment infrastructure for Jollibee using the latest technology NFC (near-field communication) with the introduction of an NFC-powered privilege card called  Happy Plus.
So, what is Happy Plus Card?

Happy Plus Card is a cashless payment card with rewards. The HappyPlus Card is basically a reloadable debit card powered by an NFC chip.

This system reminds me of Octopus card in Hong Kong and Top up Card in Singapore. Wooooot! The Philippines will soon be a tech-savvy country. I can imagine paying using an NFC card in MRT/LRT, buses, restaurants. Ahhh the possibilities are endless.

Jollibee decided to use NFC for their new Happy Plus cashless payment system simply because payment is much faster.

This is the soon to be obsolete way of paying using the debit card technology. Yes,this is how a usual mag-stripe debit card operates:
  • you give your card to the cashier
  • cashier swipes the card on the payment terminal
  • then wait for the connection to happen.
  • then wait for the receipt to be printed.
  • then you sign the receipt.
  • then you get back your card and a copy of the receipt.
Way too tedious for a fast food counter that has a long waiting line.

NFC changes all that.

With Happy Plus Card all you have to do is tap your card on the terminal to pay and you’re done!

Just see how easy it is in this video:

When do I get rewards point?
You get rewards points every time you use your HappyPlus Card in the participating stores. Every 50 peso purchase gets you 1 point. 1 point is equal to 1 peso.

If you keep on using your Happy Plus Card at Jollibee, Chowking, Greenwich, Red Ribbon and soon Mang Inasal, you'll soon accumulate enough points that you could use to purchase your meals for free!

Not only that! Aside from earning  points when you pay using the Happy Plus card you also get a  raffle ticket every time you load your Jollibee HappyPlus Card from any participating stores. Those tickets are entered into the monthly Happy Plus Raffle where you can win up to 100,000 pesos every month. Yehey!

How do you get one?
Just go to the nearest Jollibee, Greenwich, Chowking and Red Ribbon store and buy the 100-peso HappyPlus Membership Kit from the cashier. Fill out the registration form. Give that back to the cashier. From there you can start loading and using your card.

Or you can also register online. Once your card is loaded, you can use it in Jollibee, Greenwich, Chowking and Red Ribbon and soon Mang Inasal.

Plus there's an added bonus! The Happy Plus Card kit contains discount coupons which you could use when you dine in your favorite Jollibee, Greenwich, Chowking and Red Ribbon and soon Mang Inasal stores in Metro Manila.

So what are waiting for? Buy your HappyPlus card now!
Thanks to Azrael and Apol for the invitation. Because of them, I was privileged to meet the man behind Jollibee. That's another check to my bucket list. Thank you guys for making my dream come true. You don't know, how much you made me happy!

The very humble and kind Mr. Tony Tan Caktiong (Chinese: 陳覺中) and I with the Jollibee mascot. He is the founder and current Chairman and CEO of Philippine fast food chain Jollibee.
Happy Plus Card
Bilis ng bayad, Sarap ng rewards!
Log on to: www.happyplus.com.ph
HOTLINE 588-6000

P.S.

At the moment the card can't be used when ordering for a delivery. Though the guys from Jollibee said it will happen soon with the use of a mobile device.

Green Leafy Vegetables

A pleasant Good morning to everyone~!

I took this photo when we were in Baguio City Public Market. Kids today don't like to eat vegetables. And that is a no no!

While your kids are still young, train them to eat Green Leafy Vegetables. It is not only healthy but also very nutritious too!

Greens are a neglected gold mine. Filipinos today are trained to eat at fast food restaurants as early as two years old or maybe even younger. While I was growing up,  everybody is telling me that green leafy vegetables have a good effect on one's health. Then why do Filipinos today rarely eat green leafy vegetables?

Why are cabbage, broccoli, turnip greens, and spinach are rarely seen at the Filipino's dinner table?

Why is lettuce the only green vegetable that most Filipinos ever use. Yeah, they use it on their salads or as toppings on their burgers with thousand island dressings and mayonnaise.

Green vegetables are recognized by nutritionists as one of the most inexpensive sources of so many important nutrients. And yet, we take those green leafy vegetables for granted.

Kumain ng gulay dahil eto ay pampahaba ng buhay! (Eat vegetables for they prolong life!) Enjoy! Have a happy day!

Delightful Gardenia Fresh Pandesal

Delightful Gardenia Fresh Pandesal

Nothing beats the goodness of Gardenia Fresh pandesal. I always make it a point to buy Gardenia Pandesal from my favorite supermarket.

Waking up with the wafting aroma of pandesal will surely bring back many fond memories. Who can forget dipping and dunking this soft bun into a fresh cup of coffee or chocolate drink before relishing it? Some even enjoy pandesal with condensed milk, especially when the thick milk starts to ooze out from the bread and the urgent need to catch and lick it before it spills on the floor. Simple yet delicious treat.

Among the breads in the Philippines, pandesal is undoubtedly the king as it is an important part of our tradition and culture. Recognizing the need of Filipino consumers for high quality pandesal, Gardenia has made its own version of pandesal using world-class standards to ensure utmost quality in both taste and appearance.

Aside from bringing back happy memories, enjoying the delightful goodness of Gardenia pandesal is always a pleasurable experience.

So how does the Gardenia Pandesal experience start?

It begins the minute you pull one out of a pack—the smell of deliciousness and freshness. You’d almost instantly want to savor on its delightful flavor. The first bite is another story, experiencing the delectable taste the moment you sink your teeth onto its crusty outside yet blissfully soft inside.

One more distinctive attribute of Gardenia pandesal is it’s delicious hot or not. It’s disappointing when the bread you heated becomes hard as a stone when you take it off from the oven. But with Gardenia, consumers are assured that the pandesal will remain tasty, filling and appetizing even after heating or re-heating it, just like the moment you bought it from the supermarket.

Whether with scrambled eggs, fried spam or hotdog, ham, peanut butter, coconut jam, plain good butter or just by itself, Gardenia pandesal could be consumed during breakfast, merienda in the afternoon or late in the evening since it can stay fresh and soft longer, making Gardenia a sure-fire and practical choice for consumers. Plus, Gardenia Pandesal is packed with vitamins and minerals, a bit of news that would certainly bring a smile to Mommies’ faces since they know that every bite of Gardenia Pandesal is good for their kids’ health and nutritional needs.

Consumers are also assured that Gardenia observed strict quality control in the production of its bread products, giving Mommies peace of mind.

For Mommies who want to whip up something for their kids’ merienda or baon that they can enjoy once they go back to school, try making your own by adding tomato sauce and their favorite toppings to an open-faced pandesal and pop it in the oven for that instant, home-made pizza! For office workers, grab a bottle of your favorite soda—or again with coffee—together with Gardenia pandesal for that quick yet tasty break time treat. Longing for palaman for your pandesal, you could always use any savory left-over food from the refrigerator.

TUTUBAN’S FOODSTREET

A trip down Tutuban's foodstreet is a must for everyone! Street dishes are all the rage in the world’s culinary capitals, but we all know that these informal food feasts originated in Asia.

Manila, of course, is one of the top destinations for the practical and adventurous diner. Tutuban Center’s “FoodStreet” is a fine example of a gustatory district that attracts people from all walks of life for its simple, makeshift and unassuming stalls.
In these trying times, people are wisely cutting back on spending at restaurants and even fast-food joints. Street food—fresh, inexpensive, ready to eat—are more often preferred by the budget conscious. You can choose from a wide variety of food and beverages that recall the taste of home-cooked meals while having the feeling that you are dining out.
Now more than ever, being a street-food trader makes a lot of financial sense. For the innately entrepreneurial, Tutuban’s FoodStreet is offering spaces for rent. Situated at the main thoroughfares of the historic and commercial mall, future tenants will have a captured market among shoppers, students and the working/professional class.
For its small size, a street-food enterprise only requires a small amount of capital. The trader only needs the most basic cooking skills, management acumen, simple facilities and of course, his serving of affordable yet delicious lunches, dinners and snacks.

Though small scale, this type of venture has a big potential for generating income—even employment—so it isn’t impossible for the street-food trader to have average earnings that can be three to even 10 times more than the minimum-wage worker. His profits can even be more than the earnings of skilled employees. More importantly, you can now be your own boss after growing tired of the corporate rat race. It can also be a sound investment, too, especially if you are a returning overseas Filipino worker or if you’re a bored housewife with excellent culinary skills, a FoodStreet stall is definitely perfect.

Tutuban’s FoodStreet’s location at the historic former railway station is fitting because it is a reflection of the exciting local culture as manifested on the food fare being served. Appetizing offerings include Hong Kong-style noodles; Chinese siopao and siomai; Persian shawarma; the very Pinoy silog, isaw, balut, chicharon, fishballs and banana cues; or even inihaw na liempo, pusit, manok, bangus; and delicious English muffins and American baked goodies.

The prospective food trader may not only earn high incomes but he will be helping the local economy as well in terms of taxes, as micro-industries such as street-selling promote financial self-sufficiency for families as well. For example, he sources his fresh ingredients and raw materials locally, thereby also benefiting the small-scale suppliers and farm growers.

One significant concern about street food, though, is health and sanitation. However, FoodStreet and Tutuban Center officials assure tenants that the mall administration takes this aspect of the business seriously. Hygiene, cleanliness and waste disposal will adhere to the strictest standards as imposed by law and the national and local health department.

Security of both the businessman and his consumers is also of utmost consideration. The mall’s roving and plainclothes security personnel will be on hand to ensure the safety of everyone.

So, harness that inherent entrepreneur in you and open your business at Tutuban Center’s FoodStreet and taste success—in your own terms.

Tutuban’s FoodStreet operations will be from 6 am to 12 midnight starting July 01, 2012. For leasing inquiries, contact: Gina Villamor and Mary Anne Suralta, 251-1661 local 125, or direct line, 253-1769.

Cuisinart Unites Blending and Cooking in One Innovative Product

Cuisinart, America's Leader in Premium Home Appliances, has created a lifestyle workshop, in partnership with Rustan’s, entitled “Soup Du Jour”, to launch its newest innovative product, the Cuisinart Soup Maker. This versatile machine makes hot soup, whips up smoothies, crushes ice and does much more.
Soup is one of the most diverse and beloved dishes in a home cook’s repertoire, and has been a staple of kitchens around the world for centuries. Traditionally, soups of all kinds are prepared in stages: chopping vegetables, slicing meats, prepping and measuring herbs and spices, and of course, actually cooking the soup. Now, consumers can do all of this – even cooking – in the new Cuisinart Soup Maker (SSB-1). This innovative new blender utilizes patented technology that allows for cooking and stirring ingredients, which allows permits fresh homemade soup to be prepared from start to finish: the nonstick heater plate can be used to sauté ingredients, simmer and even boil soups, all of which can then be blended to the perfect consistency with the touch of a button. In addition, the blender is ideally suited for more traditional tasks like crushing ice and blending smoothies and cocktails.

“Cuisinart is proud to introduce this exciting new blender, and to once again change the way consumers think about preparing meals at home,” says Mary Rodgers, Director of Marketing Communications for Cuisinart. “The Blend and Cook Soup Maker is ahead of the curve, as it addresses a need for expediency in the kitchen and offers a level of performance and convenience that is unrivaled in the category.”

What to Look for When Purchasing a Blender:

Performance:

Cuisinart’s Soup Maker has numerous features that allow home cooks to make any soup, chowder or stew quickly and efficiently. The blender has 1000-watts of cooking power (with the blender alone, without the heater, being able to achieve a maximum of 500-watts) and a thermal, shock-resistant glass blending/cooking jar with a sturdy, wide-mouth design. This unique blender jar can hold 1.4 liters of hot liquids and 1.75 liters of cold liquids, with markings for each clearly visible on the jar itself. The dial allows users to choose speeds from one to four (one to two only for blending hot ingredients) and pulse ingredients to the desired consistency. The blender also has a countdown timer that can be set for up to 30 minutes in one-minute increments. In addition, a leak-proof rubber gasket holds the blender jar snugly in position for safe operation.

Design:

Aside from the ability to cook ingredients, the Soup Maker has other significant design elements as well. The unit has high, medium and low temperature settings to ensure that any type of soup is brought to the proper cooking and serving temperature, as well as a stir function that gently mixes ingredients as they cook. The Soup Maker is also designed with a nonstick interior and cooking plate and is equipped with high-quality unique stainless steel blades with a unique design for thorough blending and ultra smooth consistency.

Cuisinart’s new blender offers a lot of convenient features, including an easy-to-read LED 30-minute countdown timer to allow for perfect timing, whether preparing a light carrot and ginger soup or a hearty corn and clam chowder. The blender also has a press-on lid with a tight-fitting seal to prevent leakage, which is equipped with vents to allow steam to escape during the cooking process. Additionally, the lid includes a removable measuring cup that allows home cooks to measure up to three ounces of ingredients to add through the lid opening created by the removal of the measuring cup. Edsa Shangri-La Manila

The wedding banquet of my cousin was held at Edsa Shangri-La Manila last Sunday, May 27, 2012. Good Food plus good people equals good times. Everybody had a blast.

Fasten your seat belt and let's start the food roll. Be blown away by this menu.
First on the menu is the Seafood Roll. It is crunchy on the outside and soft on the inside. Yummy!! Everybody on the table just love this seafood roll.
The seafood roll was followed by Pomelo in wasabi sauce. Refreshingly delicious! I love this!
Scallop dumpling is also very tasty.
This Fried Soft shell crab in pork floss was not a hit at our table but still it looks delicious..
King prawn coated with cornflakes. It was so yummy it was gone in a flash ha ha ha.
My cousins and I were joking around looking for milk when we saw the corn flakes ha ha ha! Wherever we go cornflakes always remind us of breakfast and milk, right?
I simply love this Braised four treasure soup with crabmeat.
Seafood fried rice in lotus leaves.
This was so yummy! I love it!

By this time, I am so full I wasn't able to taste this Pan-fried cod fish in light sauce.
Sauteed beef tenderloin in black pepper sauce.
Very interesting Chicken in money bag.
Lotus bun looks like mini-siopao but has sweet fillings inside.
Dessert was Chilled mango pudding. It was so hard to get a great shot with the kind of lighting they have at Isla Ballroom.

I love the mango pudding though. It was so yummy!

Verdict: Yummylecious!  5 star

Congratulations and Best Wishes to the newly wed.

3M PIZZA SPECIAL TREAT TO THE QUEEN OF THE DAY

This Mother’s Day, treat your mom like a queen, after all, she’s the Queen of the Day. Make sure she stays away from the kitchen. For at least a day or two each year (the more the better), pamper her and show her some TLC (Tender Loving Care) by not letting her wet her hands doing kitchen chores or anything tiresome. Let her dress up for the day ready to meet the entire family for lunch, dinner or merienda get-together in celebration of Mother’s Day. It’s going to be one ‘heaven’ of a reunion, where each family member gifts the light of the home with flowers, cake and, of course, the favorite family pizza Filipino homes have known for generations—3M.

For sure, 3M Pizza rings a bell to you and to your parents, uncles and aunties, and even lolos and lolas. This pizza brand has been around a long, long time—as far back as 1969, in fact. So 3M Pizza and almost every Pinoy home must really have come a long way inseparably observing traditional and modern celebrations.

Mother’s Day is one really good occasion to partake of 3M pizza because it’s the day you’ve all got to keep Mom away from cooking. It’s sufficiently gratifying to share 3M pizza with the rest of the family on this day. The new 3M pizza flavors further boost this pizza’s Pinoy image. We’ve now been been given truly Filipino flavors for us to broaden our choices. According to the top honcho behind 3M, Noel Sun, the company plans to expand their pasta and snacks line to supplement their spaghetti, lasagna and pizzadog. All are truly Pinoy na Pinoy to the palate!

Surprise Mom, too, of 3M’s now beefed-up yummy offerings that include an assortment of pastas, salads and complete meal packages. One inspired Filipino dish that will surely bet your queen’s liking is the spicy Bicol Express pizza, which proved to be a big hit. The pasta line will also be expanded to include new variants that are uniquely Filipino. What about parading before her mouth-watering lasagna and crunchy fried chicken? Or stack up the meal table with an assortment of salads instead—for health! Mom will be surprised to learn that 3M is now not just a pizza parlor but one that serves an assortment of yummy treats for meals or snacks. There’s a wide array of sumptuous food to choose from. Drop by at 3M closest to home and in a jiffy, drive home with pizzas, pastas, salads, fried chickens, etc. etc. etc.–enough to feed the whole family.

“Currently, 3M, which has been around since 1969, has 44 outlets of which four are company outlets, the rest, dealers,” Sun said.

We all practically grew up with 3M as the only pizza parlor in the country. Back then it was a byword especially in middle to upper-income families. It was a Sunday bonding meal and a party fare as well. This writer and her siblings reminisce: “The times our parents brought us to parks after the Sunday mass we would usually pick up a big box of 3M pizza along the way and feast on it for that perfect family picnic.”

But if your queen seems bored staying home most of the time, then sweep her off her feet and drive around town with her, showing the latest gig places, and when she’s hungry, take her to the surprise of her life by treating her to 3M pizza. She’d really get the surprise of her life to see how 3M has ‘changed’ image to keep up with the times and how its menu today is a far cry from yesterday’s. Watch Mom’s face as she’d likely exclaim: “Transformed!” Uh-huh, 3M pizza has indeed transformed but the elements that came with the 3M pizza that Mom and Lola used to know are still very much around—and surely, Mom can discern those. Wanna bet?

Moi Favorito Croissant

Yes! Croissant is one of my favorite breakfast. When we were in Thailand I always devour this meal because it's not only cheap but also very delicious.

Croissants are made of a leavened variant of puff pastry. The yeast dough is layered with butter, rolled and folded several times in succession, then rolled into a sheet, a technique called laminating.

Crescent-shaped food breads have been made since the Middle Ages, and crescent-shaped cakes (imitating the often-worshiped Moon) possibly since classical times, The croissant in its current form was invented in Vienna after the victory of the Holy League against the Turks in 1683.

Croissants have long been a staple of French bakeries and pâtisseries. In the late 1970s, the development of factory-made, frozen, pre-formed but unbaked dough made them into a fast food which can be freshly baked by unskilled labor. Indeed, the croissanterie was explicitly a French response to American-style fast food, and today 30–40% of the croissants sold in French bakeries and patisseries are frozen.

This innovation, along with the croissant's versatility and distinctive shape, has made it the best-known type of French pastry in much of the world. Today, the croissant remains popular in a continental breakfast.

Luckily, I again had a chance to eat my favorite croissant at the Unilever's event. Unilever donated Php 400,000 to the United Nation's World Food Program. See entry here. Php 400,000 means food to 40,000 children in Mindanao. You see each and everyone of us should realize how lucky we were. We don't have to beg for food or shelter.
Anyway, back to my favorite Croissant. At the registration table of Unilever they asked us to filled up a form as to what type of bread do we like, they further instructed us to indicate toppings and other ingredients and ornaments that we like in our sandwich. I put croissant as my bread of choice with ham, cheese, tomato, lettuce, catsup and mayonnaise.

They then asked us to pick one paper from the fish bowl. We had to prepare a sandwich for the name indicated on the paper. A gentleman journalist prepared my sandwich. I, on the other had prepared the preferred sandwich of a Manila Times reporter. It was fun, because we get to meet other participants in the event and we had so much fun posing for photos when we presented the sandwich to our lucky pick.

I am so happy :-) I love Croissant!
