NOVEMBER 30, 2011 is a HOLIDAY

Bonifacio Day this year marks the 148th birth anniversary of Andres Bonifacio, the supreme leader of the Katipunan movement that sought Philippine independence from Spanish colonial rule.

But there would be no long weekend for this coming week to mark Bonifacio Day, according to MalacaƱang.

Deputy presidential spokesperson Abigail Valte stressed this in response to several inquiries on whether the observance of Bonifacio Day on Nov. 30 will be moved to the nearest Monday.

According to Proclamation 84, series of 2010, Bonifacio Day will be marked on November 30, on a Wednesday, as the date falls. There will be no moving it to Monday.

Meanwhile, Valte said the Palace may soon issue a proclamation specifying the dates of holidays for 2012. “We will issue the proclamation as soon as it is signed by the president," she said.

GMA MUG SHOTS

The most wanted, most sought after mug shots of a former world leader from the Philippines, former president and now Pampanga congresswoman GLORIA MACAPAGAL ARROYO.

MUG SHOTS OF CGMA

These mug shots of former President and now Pampanga Rep. Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo did not come from the Pasay City Regional Trial Court which has refused to release the police photos. Sources who requested anonymity sent the photos to the Inquirer. CONTRIBUTED PHOTO

The photographs was taken frontally and sideways. It showed the former President and now Pampanga Representative Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo wearing a neck brace after police formally placed her under arrest for electoral sabotage, a charge is now pending in the Pasay City Regional Trial Court Branch 112.

No specific order

“There’s no specific court order but Judge Mupas directed us not to release the mug shots,” according to a court employee.

“One of the defense lawyers manifested before the court that any release of the photos will affect the constitutional rights and interests of their client.”

Any media entity seeking to publish the mug shots now in the hands of the court must put its request in writing and file it with the court, Pelicano said.

Bayan Muna Representative Neri Colmenares defended the publication of Arroyo’s mug shots. In a text message, he said: “There is no reason not to publish Gloria’s mug shots, considering that this is a public document.”
