BRASSERIE CIÇOU's Exquisite Degustation

 BRASSERIE CIÇOU's ( bras-ˈrē see-sue) Exquisite Degustation.

The French restaurant Brasserie Cicou is located in Greenhills in San Juan. It is right beside Istituto Culinario at the ground floor of OB Montessori school.

The Owner. Paris-born owner Chef Cyrille Soenen is a long-time Manila resident. CiÇou is Chef Cyrille Soenen’s childhood nickname. Chef Cyrille, a veteran of several two-starred Michelin restaurants in Paris is concurrently also the Executive Chef of Maxim Hotel’s Impressions Restaurant (inside Resort World Manila), the country’s newest French haute cuisine destination. Chef Cyril Soenen used to own the Restaurant CiÇou at the Hotel Celeste on Pasay Road in Makati City.  But CiÇou in Makati closed in 2010 to the disappointment of chef Cyril’s fans. So calling all chef Cyril’s followers, CiÇou has reopened as Brasserie Cicou in Greenhills, San Juan.

The Settings. Brasserie CiÇou is elegant in interiors. It has a rustic settings with a green twist. Brasserie CiÇou used recycled wine bottles as lighting.

The Food. We were served with a sardine recipe concocted by chef Cyril Soenen himself of Prince Albert fame.

At Brasserie CiÇou, chef Cyril Soenen uses fresh tawilis that he personally buys from the market. The sardines is marinated with olive oil, served with goat cheese espuma and black olive powder. The dish bursts with freshness in your mouth that you will remember it for days and even wish to imitate it at home.

The name "sardines" is a collective term that generally refers to small members of the herring family, although this can vary by region. They're typically oily fish with a high fat content, but are also good sources of vitamins and minerals. Most sardines are canned but they can also be cooked fresh.

Fresh sardines are a much-appreciated delicacy. If you get them fresh, you are guaranteed deliciousness. And if fresh sardines are on a restaurant’s menu, you can more often than not be sure they were purchased that morning because they rot easily and don’t freeze well.
 Fresh Salad
Bite-size Boudin Noir Parmentier is blood sausage on mashed potatoes.
Bouillabaisse is a fish and seafood stock boiled and reduced served with prawns, fish fillet and marble potatoes.

Bite-size Onglet Poeler (US Beef Hanger Steak)

Chocolate and Vanilla Canelle Dessert

Kouing aman (koo-ing ah-mon)

Egg Cocotte with Squash Foam is basically an egg cooked in cocotte or ceramic vessel served with squash foam.

The staff. The restaurant has casually clad wait staff dressed in shorts and short-sleeved shirts.

Verdict -A must try.

AN AFTERNOON OF POLO GAME WITH FILA SKELETOES

WHAT THE HECK IS SKELETOES?

SKELETOES is a new barefoot shoe offering from Fila with feature that combines two smallest toes for ease of entry while a bungee cord at the heel and top of the foot makes the shoes easy to pull on and off. Flexible, form-fitting, and lightweight, the Fila Skele-toes takes athletic footwear to the next level. 4-way stretch upper. Multi-activity traction on outsole. These are best for active men, women and children for use in casual activities as biking, boating, swimming, walking, etc.

It was an afternoon of unlimited Moët & Chando (French pronunciation: (moɛt ay shah-DAUH} {mo.et e ʃɑ̃.dɔ̃]) at the launch of Fila's Skeletoes which coincided with the 2012 Fila Polo Cup.

The Fila Skeletoes was launched at the Manila Polo Club with fireworks and band and unlimited food.

It was a sight to behold. Ladies in sundresses, sunglasses and beautiful hats, men in Panama hats.

A buffet of smoked bangus mousse on puff squares, mini beef empanaditas, barbecued chicken skewers with mango salsa, pandesal bar with kesong puti with honey and tomatoes, pulled pork adobo flakes, sundried tomato chicken, and tuna mayo fillings, filled the tummies of everyone.

The pasta bar has mix of farfalle with local longganisa and white cheese in garlic, olive oil and chili pepper, penne with crabfat cream sauce. I especially like the dessert of Turon bars with ube and jackfruit with English cream and toasted sesame, oh so yummy! ( Correction, I love it!)  spread that had sumptuous chocnut mousse in trifle cups, and delicious mango and pandan  Trinity cream served in mini porcelain cups.

After the awarding of trophies to the winning polo team the UP Dancers performed difficult stunts to the delight of the crowd.
There is also a band that played the most in demand tunes. A dinner buffet  was set up right at the field and fireworks lit up the sky. It was an amazing experience!

A Fire in the Soul: A Cantata

Go see A Fire in the soul: A Cantata to know what people may go through during a war. La Salle University is paying a tribute to those who died in the massacre in the school at the end of World War II. The show is called A Fire in the Soul: A Cantata

In the play the brothers are warned to leave the premises but they decided to stay to defend the school. Sixteen brothers and 24 civilians were massacred in the school’s premises on Feb. 12, 1945.

When the war commenced, the American Christian Brothers were replaced by the German Christian Brothers who were based in Singapore. They, in turn, were expelled from Singapore by the British because the United Kingdom was at war with Germany in Europe. Since Germany was not at war with Japan, this seemed to be a good decision at the time. However, war turns human beings into monsters and as the Americans made their drive towards Manila, the Japanese vented their frustrations on hapless unarmed citizens. Out of the flames of war, heroes are also forged. This show will honor their memory, their service to humanity, and make us remember them eternally.

Director Peque Gallaga had this to say: “The La Salle Martyrs were the first foreigners who proved Filipinos were worth dying for.” Gallaga said that aside from showing love for their host country, the brothers’ deaths also showed that investing in Filipinos meant more than teaching them literacy and numeracy. He further added that the message of the show was on the level of what inspired people to join the “yellow army” of pro-Cory Aquino groups with high ideals, high principles. The Filipino people had the power to toppled a dictator.

Fire in the Soul was created by Gabby Fernandez, directed by Peque Gallaga, with a libretto by Vicente Garcia Groyon, and music by Von de Guzman.

The cast includes Michael de Mesa (Bro. Egbert), Franco Laurel (Bro. Antonius), Al Gatmaitan (Bro. Mutwald), Jonel Mojica (Bro. Friedbert), Miguel Castro (Bro. Arkadius), Floyd Tena (Bro. Athanasius), and Naomi Sison (Alma Mater).

Also, joining them are Onyl Torres (Japanese Captain), Nazer Salcedo (Japanese Soldier 1), Gary Fabricante (Japanese Soldier 2), and John Gilbert Arceo (Japanese Soldier 3).

Narrators are Jaime Fabregas, Ricky Gallaga, Conchita Castillo, Dado Jose, Tanya Lopez, and Louie Zabaljauregi.

Featured in this production are the different La Salle singing groups, namely: De La Salle Inner Soul, De La Salle-Zobel Chorale, La Salle Centennial Orchestra, La Salle Centennial Chorus. Some kids of La Salle-Greenhills are also part of the show.

Joining the Production and the Artistic Team are Mio Infante (Production Design), Dong Calingacion (Technical and Lighting Director), GA Fallarme (Projection Design), Br. Bernard S. Oca, FSC (Executive Producer), and Lore Reyes (Line Producer).

The show will only have two performances at the Teresa Yuchengco Auditorium at the 7th floor of the Don Enrique Yuchengco Hall at De La Salle University in Taft Avenue on Sunday, Feb. 26 at 3 p.m., and Monday, Feb. 27 at 8 p.m. (Gala Night).

Tickets for the Feb. 26 show are P200 for regular tickets and P100 for students, and for the Feb. 27 show, regular tickets are P500 and P250 for students, and regular balcony tickets are P250 and P200 for students. Google Cleared Blog Sites with Nuffnang X Conversations

Google Cleared Blog Sites with Nuffnang X Conversations

Finally after almost three days my site together with other nuffnangers and bloggers with Nuffnang x javascript and html installed on their sites was cleared by Google.

While Google has cleared malware warnings on NuffnangX as early as the evening of December 5, we all know that some of the Nuffnangers blogs are still showing the malware warning from Google. And that is so unfair. Nuffnang X must help all those blog owners to have their websites clear by Google!

What happened?

Google is "praning". They labeled Nuffnang X as a malware! With the Nuffnang x installed on my template and on my side bar I also got Google's ire! Maybe they put that warning for the good of the readers but it is absolutely irresponsible of them because the "malware ahead" warning destroyed the credibility of the blog sites they mistook to be having a malware. They issued a warning without conducting proper tests and without notifying first the site owners especially the bloggers whose only fault is be nice to Nuffnang and installed the Nuffnang X despite its issues and problems. We don't earn anything from Nuffnang X. We added Nuffnang x upon the request of Nuffnang, who is very good to us bloggers.

I am praying and hoping that by now, most of the blog sites affected by the malware ahead warning were now back to normal. In our case we were cleared after we removed Nuffnang x conversation html and javascript from our sites.

Tips 'N Toes Jennifer Lynn's Gel Polish

Your nails tells a lot about your personal grooming habits. So it's important to keep them looking fresh and healthy by caring for your nails on a regular basis. So I travel to Tips 'N Toes nail salon in Greenbelt 1 in Makati to get a shapely and polish nails.

This is the area where they give you pampering from your fingernails down to your toes.
For my hands fingernails I tried out their UV nail colour (gel polish). One of the most popular brand in the U.S. today is said to be Jennifer Lynn's Gel Polish.
Jennifer Lynn Gel Polish is said to be an amazing Professional line of UV Gel Polish that goes on like polish, dries in 30 seconds, and stays shiny for the entire length of time between manicures.
Jennifer Lynn Gel Polish has an extensive color selection. I was very impressed with the variety of Jennifer Lynn's Gel Polish. So, let's wait for three weeks so I could speak for myself about Jennifer Lynn's Gel Polish quality.
If you love a polished look but unfortunately your recent manicures have been a chip off the old block (read: ordinary manicure), treat your tips and toes to quality service with Tips 'N Toes Jennifer Lynn Gel Polish which yields long-lasting, picture-perfect results according to the nail technicians B1 and B2.

The nail technician Bebe Meneses started by cleaning my nails, cuticle detail, reshaping and buffing them into a healthy shine.

I tried the most popular style which is the innocently sexy French Manicure.

For a total of Php1,350, you would get a Gel Polish manicure, ordinary pedicure, a relaxing foot soak, callus-smoothing session, and a one minute hand and leg massage.

After each Jennifer Lynn Gel Polish application, the nails are then cured under a UV light machine to seal the gel polish. If I counted it right, I think they made a total of 3 coats for each of my fingernails.

Oh Yes, B1 finish the treatment with a 1 minute therapeutic massage to both of my hands.

They applied to my fingernails Jennifer Lynn Gel Polish which cost Php 650.

Nail care at the salon is not limited to the hands only. Foot spas and pedicures are offered as well for both men and women.

B1 and B2 said that Jennifer Lynn's Gel Polish on my fingernails would last for up to three weeks without the inconvenience of chipping, tearing or cracking. So let's wait and see if this manicure would last that long.

My manicure where they applied Jennifer Lyn's Gel Polish still has a fresh new look even after I hand wash clothes and wash the dishes.

Marvin Reglos, San Beda Freshman Law Student killed in Hazing

Another life was lost due to frat-related hazing

It's been 21 years since the death of Leny Villa from hazing. He was an Ateneo Law student. Now a San Beda law student died from hazing. Note that these students came from reputable law schools.

It is 2012 already! When will this frat-related hazing stop?
We condemn this unlawful and dreadful act of violence. We grieve over a life that has gone to waste because of the system of brotherhood that employs violence and intimidation as part of its ceremonies and practices. Stop this senseless killing!

Marvin Reglos' father is a farmer from Isabela while his mother is an OFW in Korea. Marvin Reglos is an only son. He has two sisters. His father said they were working so hard to give Marvin a better life. Marvin's life ended in a senseless death.Condolence to Marvin Reglos' family, classmates and friends.
MANILA, Philippines – A San Beda College student died from injuries sustained in an alleged hazing incident.

The victim was identified on Tuesday morning by his relatives as 25-year-old Marvin Reglos, a freshman law student from San Beda College.

Marvin was brought on Sunday night to Unciano Medical Center by two men on board a red Honda City (WMF 174). He was declared dead on arrival at the hospital.

Two suspects were arrested on the same night Marvin was rushed to the hospital. Alleged fraternity members Erick Edrosolano Castillo, 28; and Bodjie Amorin Yap, 24, were arrested after they went back to the hospital, supposedly to check on Marvin’s condition.

Marvin sustained severe bruises on several parts of his body. He supposedly sustained these bruises during his initiation rites in the unidentified fraternity.

The victim’s remains were later transferred to Antipolo Memorial Homes, where he was identified by his relatives. His father and mother have yet to arrive from Isabela and Korea, respectively.

Lorvie Reglos, Marvin’s sister, said her brother told her during their last conversation on February 18 that he was joining a fraternity.

“Sinabi na po niya sa akin na may fraternity siyang sasalihan. Sabi ko ‘ikaw magisip ka ng mabuti, malaki ka na. Alam mo na ang ginagawa mo,’” Lorvie said.

Lorvie said a classmate of Marvin has agreed to testify on the incident. Authorities have filed murder and hazing charges against the two.

Police said the case is strong against the suspects after they found from their cellphones several text messages, supposedly from other fraternity members, warning not to speak out on the matter or reveal the identities of those behind the alleged hazing.

The 12 Little Things We Can Do For Our Country by Alexander Lacson

The 12 Little Things We Can Do For Our Country are Small Acts of Patriotism
1st : Follow traffic rules. Follow the law

Traffic rules are the most basic of our country’s laws. If we learn to follow them, it could be the lowest form of national discipline we can develop as a people. A culture of discipline is crucial to our destiny as a nation.

Whenever we follow traffic rules, we show our love for our neighbor, our love for the Filipino.

2nd : Always ask for an official receipt

Asking for ORs leads to higher tax collections, which means more funds for our government, which could strengthen our economy and lead us to progress.

Whenever we help our government in helping our people, we show our love for our neighbor.

3rd : Don’t buy smuggled goods. Buy Local. Buy Filipino

Our money should support our economy, not the economy of other countries. Buying Pilipino means supporting the Filipino.

Whenever we support one another as Filipinos, we show our love for our neighbors.

4th : Speak positively about us and our country

Every Filipino is an ambassador of our country. Each one of us, wherever we maybe, is a salesman of our country.

Whenever we speak positively of our people, we show our love for our neighbors.

5th : Respect your traffic officer, policeman & other public servants

Respect honors and dignifies a man. It compels him to do his job right.

There is love of neighbor whenever we respect those in authority.

6th : Throw your garbage properly. Segregate. Recycle. Conserve

Philippines is the country given to us as a people. It is the birthplace of our race. It is the home of the Filipino. We should keep it beautiful.

When we keep our environment and our country clean, we show our love for our people.

7th : Support your Church

When we help our church, we help our Creator in His works on earth.

Whenever we help our church, we show love for our neighbor.

8th : During elections, do your solemn duty

When we fight for our votes, we fight for our right to make our own destiny, as a people and as a nation.

There is love of neighbor when we elect good leaders for our country and people.

9th : Pay your employees well

A company must bring prosperity not only to its owners but also to its employees. Blessings must be shared. It builds families. It builds our nation.

There is love of neighbor when we value and pay our employees appropriately.

10th : Pay your taxes

Taxes are the lifeblood of our government. It is what builds our public schools, hospitals and roads. It is what pays our teachers, soldiers and other public servants.

There is love of neighbor whenever we pay our taxes properly so our government can help more people.

11th : Adopt a scholar or a poor child

Investing on our youth is investing on our country’s future. Every family who can afford, should adopt one poor child as a scholar.

There is love of neighbor whenever we help a child get an education.

12th : Be a good parent. Teach your kids to love our country

If we start planting seeds of patriotism in the hearts and minds of our youth today, they would become giant patriots of our country someday.

There is love of neighbor whenever we teach and raise our children as patriots, by loving our country through loving our people.

« Love of neighbor, God’s Second Highest Commandment, is contained in each of these 12 Little Things. »

Jeremy Lin

The historic, hellacious success of  Jeremy Lin put the Asian-American into the eyes of the world. Lin’s story has become a runaway locomotive, and he keeps feeding this monster with victory after victory, performance after performance. Jeremy Lin is an American professional basketball player with the New York Knicks of the National Basketball Association (NBA).

Jeremy Lin was born in Los Angeles, California on August 23, 1988. Jeremy Shu-How Lin is a first-generation son of Taiwanese immigrants Gie-Ming and Shirley.

Jeremy Lin is a Harvard graduate. He was an American dream given athletic form.

Up until February 4, 2012 few people even knew his name. But ever since he scored 25 points on that evening's game against the New Jersey Nets, in which he showed a near-superhuman game performance, Jeremy Lin  put the whole of New York and the American press entered into a state of "Linsanity" to the point that Lin is trying to trademark the coinage.

Today is Ash Wednesday February 22, 2012

By the sweat of your brow, you will produce food to eat until you return to the ground, because you were taken from it. You are dust, and you will return to dust."
Today is Ash Wednesday February 22, 2012. Let this be a gentle reminder that we should be always be a blessings to others. I am sharing Araneta Center's Mass schedule for Ash Wednesday but you can always go to your local church anywhere in the country.
