THE FAMOUS EGGETTE IN HONGKONG


An eggette is a kind of spherical pancake or ball waffle popular in the Cantonese-speaking regions of China, including Hong Kong and Macau. 
The food item is also referred to as an 
  • egg puff
  • egg waffle
  • bubble waffle 
  • or by its Cantonese name, gai daan jai (鷄蛋仔)
Eggettes' are made from eggs, sugar, flour, and light evaporated milk. They are best served hot, and often eaten plain. They can also be served with fruit and flavors such as strawberry, coconut or chocolate. They are sometimes referred to as "Hong Kong cakes" in Chinatown across America, especially in New York.
You could buy and eat This "Eggette"  along Granville Road in Tsim Sha Tsui. There are 2 to 3 shops along this area.
Eggettes' are one of the most popular Hong Kong "street snacks" and was ranked No.3 in the 50 most popular HK "street snack".

They seemed to be easy to make all you need are 2 steel eggette mould, eggs and flour mixture and electricity and there you have the eggette you want.


But then again the simpler it seems, the better skills it takes. Eggette doesn't seem much different from waffles or pancakes you get from Jollibee. but then the skills involved can be so much more demanding.

Watching the production of the Mammy Pancake, one would finally understand what it means by skills and how minor improvements from the existing skills can make such a big difference in the quality.

Mammy Pancake make their eggette slowly, real slow while you could see one store down Kimberley Street, Tsim Sha Tsui, and the man juggles between five eggette moulds and he serves 10 customers in 10 minutes, make 10 eggettes every single minute and people lined up quickly leave with their order. No problem at all for that guy! But the eggettes taste plain and normal as any other ones you could find almost anywhere else. 

On the other hand, Mammy Pancake's staff spent at least 3 to 4 minutes to make one eggette, and the long queue of customers have to wait for 15 minutes for their food but yet they waited!

Average waiting time: 15 minutes. Make your order first and they will give you a token with number. They will call you when your order is ready.
Instead of having a typical chocolate coloured and flavoured pancake, Mammy offers plain egg pancake with lots of chocolate bits spreading randomly across the whole pancake. What's more fascinating was that the chocolate bites were all melted within the egg pancakes, so you could literally taste the smooth chocolate paste sweetening your palate.

The texture of the egg pancake was crispy and light with a strong taste of egg. It also contained the aroma of egg and chocolate on it. The melted chocolate was pretty smooth and had a similar taste as the chocolate filling of the Lotte's Koala chocolate b
iscuit. Such a scrumptious chocolate pancake, totally worth the wait!

There are three choices of flavor - original, chocolates and WHITE SESAME!

From the newly opened River City mall, we walked towards the back of Shangri-la Bangkok.








We then turned right to the alley going to the Central Pier, we waited for the orange flag river taxi and paid 14 baht each then disembarked @Tha Thien, we walked past a public market selling dried fish like those found in Tabuan in Cebu. Softdrinks and water is cheaper @ the small eatery in front of the gate of WAT PO. Coke cost only 20 baht against 25-30 baht selling price by the vendor near the pier.

After drinking Coke, ( my first after 6 months of abstinence) we crossed the road then entered the gate of WAT PO, that's when I realized I lost my LUMIX Original Battery ( sigh) I retraced my steps and found nothing, so I guessed I lost it somewhere between the pier and the gate. I moved on. And happily pose for pictures inside WAT PO.




There is an entrance fee of 50 baht.

Fruits abound there in Bangkok, Thailand. Pineapple, watermelon, etc. you name it they have it! The fruits I saw was just like the ones that you find in the Philippines.

WAT PO -TEMPLE OF THE RECLINING BUDDHA SIGNAGE AND PICTURES



You would find these signages at the entrance of Wat Pho Temple. What caught my attention is the signage that warn people against NON-THAI PICKPOCKETS. Lol. Naisip ko tuloy baka they were referring to Pinoys again. We happened to be in Hongkong when they caught two pickpockets/ snatchers. Yes! Not one, but two snatchers who are both Filipinos. I may be laughing about it but deep inside it hurts:( grabe impression nila pag Pinoy :( Maybe those Pinoys have their own reasons. We never know. I just hope and pray there would come a day that whenever they learn that we are Filipinos they would respect and regard us highly.



Proceed with caution against this gang. Just bear in mind they are NON-THAI! One day we would also display that sign in the Philippines-- NON-FILIPINO PICKPOCKETS.

Anyhow, let's move on and see the grandeur of WAT PO.

The Buddha statue at WAT PHO was reclining because he was at peace. They said that he is awaiting for heaven in this pose. That's why he was reclining.


This is a painting on WAT PHO wall that shows a village and its people. The painting depicts the Buddha and the village people in their everyday lives.

Wat Pho temple in Phra Nakhon district, Bangkok, Thailand. It is located in the Rattanakosin area directly adjacent to the Grand Palace. Known also as the Temple of the Reclining Buddha, its official name is Wat Phra Chettuphon Wimon Mangkhalaram Ratchaworamahawihan. 

It is the largest temple in Bangkok and famed for its huge and majestic reclining Buddha measured 46 metres long and covered in gold leaf. The Buddha's feet are 3 metres long and exquisitely decorated in mother-of-pearl illustrations of auspicious 'laksanas' meaning -"characteristics"of the Buddha.

My brother and I went to Wat Pho after our shopping spree around Thailand.  It is our second time in Bangkok, Thailand. And we really love the place. My mouth fell the first time I saw the Giant reclining Buddha. It was so huge and glittering in gold. Its feet is made of mother of Pearl and everyone is forbidden to touch it. 






The intricate design of buddha's characteristics is made of mother of pearl . Amazingly beautiful

Oh, it was a wonderful Thailand adventure and I hope to be back soon!

FREE 75,000 MRT TICKETS TO BE GIVEN AWAY BY PRU LIFE OF UK


MANILA, Philippines—Lucky commuters will be able to take Metro Rail Transit (MRT) trains on Epifanio de los Santos Avenue (Edsa) for free on Friday as insurance company Pru Life UK celebrates its 15th anniversary by giving away tickets.

In a statement, Pru Life UK said it would put up booths at the MRT’s Taft, Ayala, Shaw, Cubao and North EDSA stations to distribute a total of 75,000 tickets to passengers. This makes up about 16 percent of the MRT line’s daily average ridership of 450,000 passengers.

“There will be allocations for both morning and afternoon commuters, and tickets will be given away until supplies last,” the company said.

“The motto of Pru Life UK is ‘Always listening, always understanding.’ What better way to show the Filipino people that Pru Life UK understands their needs than by celebrating our 15th year through an initiative that will connect with something they do everyday?” the company’s president Antonio de Rosas said.

“Public transportation, especially the MRT, holds a significant role in our urban lives. As we celebrate 15 years of service, we wanted to do something that would make us reach not just our policy holders but the public in general. This is Pru Life UK’s way of sharing its blessings,” he said.

On Thursday, government employees were likewise treated with free train tickets at the MRT and Light Rail Transit (LRT) lines 1 and 2, in celebration of the Civil Service Commission’s 111th anniversary this September.

About 1.25 million commuters take the LRT and MRT trains every day. The MRT line runs along Epifanio de los Santos Avenue, Metro Manila’s busiest thoroughfare, from Taft Avenue in Pasay to North Avenue in Quezon City.

The LRT line 1 runs along Taft Avenue from Baclaran, in Parañaque to Roosevelt in Quezon City, while line 2 runs along Aurora Boulevard from Recto, Manila to Santolan, Marikina.
